Bates Collision Believes in Treating You Like Family

Trust. What’s it made of? Maybe it’s honesty. That’s certainly part of it. Or maybe compassion. That’s important, too. But whatever it is, trust brings thoughts of home, family and closeness. “It’s the kind of thing that brings peace of mind”, says Leila Bates. “It’s what our business is based on,” she adds. “We work hard every day to earn that trust by treating every customer as if they were family (and because we’re local, some of them actually are).”

When Lee and Leila opened the business “on a shoestring”, says Lee, “We were barely able to scrape together enough money to open the doors – and we hoped we could get someone to trust us with a job”. They both had grown up in Baytown, but outside their family and circle of friends, their business was literally an unknown. They knew they had to work hard to earn the trust of the community. They had to do the job. Do it right. And help every customer get through a tough situation.

But what really makes this family owned business special is that they are not just helping their customers, they are helping in nearly every corner of the community…from Service League of Baytown, Rotary, Relay for Life, Baytown Chamber of Commerce, Bond Election Committees, San Jacinto College & GCCISD Technical School Advisory Committees & countless church committees… and the list goes on. But perhaps their most notable program is the “Christmas Car” which they present to a needy family each year.

“We will present our 37th & 38th cars this Christmas”, said Leila. “It can change a life. It has changed our lives. Seeing the joy on the faces of the receiving family, especially the children – when they find the car is chock full of beautifully wrapped presents – is priceless!” It may explain why Bates Collision Centers has been recognized far and wide… from Leila being named one of the 10 Most Influential Women in the Collision Repair Industry to Bates receiving the Governor’s Volunteer Award, I-Car Gold Class award for 25 consecutive years, Acoat “Growth” Award, Acoat “Pride” Award, being voted Baytown’s favorite body shop year after year as well as Lee & Leila being named 2018 Citizens of the Year.

Now over 3 decades in business and thousands of jobs later, Lee and Leila and the Bates Collision team are still working hard to earn the community’s trust every day. “We’re a family owned business”, says Leila, “and it is our goal to make every customer feel like they are a part of it – our family just grows and grows! Trust brings peace of mind – not just for our customers, but for our employees and our business as well. We feel so strongly about it that we have built it into a written mission statement”.
